Child Friendly Cities & Community

The VLGA proudly manages the Victorian Child Friendly Cities and Communities (CFCC) network.

The CFCC brings individuals, organisations and communities together to collectively uphold and implement the principles of the Victorian Child Friendly Cities and Communities Charter.  Key principles of the Charter include:

• Acting in the best interests of the child
• Freedom for children to express their individual opinions and right to have these considered in decisions that affect them
• Creating equity for all children based on their needs.

Children are integral part of our communities, but without voting rights, their ability to shape the communities in which they live is limited by the opportunities afforded to them by adults.

Through this network the VLGA supports signatories of the Charter from the local government sector, and other organisations focused on early childhood support, to work alongside children to provide opportunities for them to be active and engaged citizens that have the skills to share their unique perspective with decision makers and their community.

The CFCC is supported by an advisory group, and hosts network meetings throughout the year that provide key information from the sector, guest presentations, as well as providing a support network for professionals.
