Local Government Working Group on Gambling
Reducing Gambling Harm Through Sector Leadership
The VLGA Local Government Working Group on Gambling (LGWGOG) provides specialist advice and information to the local government sector around the issue of gambling.
This is achieved through a focus on:
- Exposure to current research and policy development
- Presentations and case studies from guest speakers
- Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan implications
- Attendance at Victorian Gambling and Gaming Control Commission (VGCCC) hearings relating to electronic gaming machine hearings and dissemination of key take aways from decisions.
Established in the 1990’s, this network is a key platform for sharing knowledge, data and best practice examples around managing the significant social and economic impacts gambling can have on communities.
The Network sees a broad range of council officers, councillors and sector professionals meet to share expertise, updates and new research or policy examples that best enables council to effectively reduce harm from gambling in the local community.
The LGWGOG is a powerful resource and network that enables effective policy and improved advocacy.
Who Can Access LGWGOG
Membership and attendance of the LGWGOG is for VLGA Member Councils only, however broader advice and information on gambling related issues is available to non-member councils. In this way, the VLGA supports all communities across the State on gaming related matters.
